Botox®

Injections for Lines & Wrinkles

Anti-wrinkle injections are a highly popular method of softening facial expression lines and making the face look refreshed.

The treatment works by relaxing the tiny facial muscles which create expression lines. This means the muscles no longer contract so the overlying skin stays smooth and crease-free. The result is a more serene and youthful look.
The procedure is simple and straightforward. The injection is injected using a very fine needle in very precise locations on the face. After around two or three days the effects are seen with the full benefits becoming visible up to 14 days after treatment. The results last for around three to six months before repeat treatments are required.

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used successfully to treat frown lines, wrinkles and hyperhidrosis. Now this skin rejuvenation treatment has been extended to include the mid region of the face, neck and chest to help correct a number of flaws.

Smoother skin is just one of the benefits of anti-wrinkle injections. The treatment can also be used where excess sweating is a problem. In these cases, anti-wrinkle injection works to block the nerves to the sweat glands and keep the skin drier and fresher.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox works by blocking the signals from the nerves to the injected muscles. The muscles can no longer contract strongly, which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften. It is most often used on forehead lines, laughter lines and frown lines.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

Botox is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. It generally takes between two to fourteen days to take full effect and it is best to avoid alcohol and exposed to excessive sunlight at least five days prior to treatment. Aspirin should be should be stopped two weeks before treatment in order to reduce bruising.

How Long Does a Botox Injection Last?

The effects of Botox usually last between five to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles might need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles usually appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax.

What Are the Side Effects of Botox?

The most common side effect is temporary bruising. Headaches, which resolve in 24-48 hours, can occur, but this is rare. Rarely, patients may develop eyelid drooping. This usually resolves in three to four weeks. This development is usually caused by migration of the Botox and for this reason, you shouldn’t rub the treated area for 12 hours after injection or lay down for three to four hours. There have been no allergies associated with Botox to date.

Who Should Not Receive Botox Injection?

Clients who are pregnant or trying for pregnancy, breastfeeding or have a neurological disease should not use Botox. Since Botox doesn’t work for all wrinkles, a consultation with a doctor is essential.
