What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess unwanted fat, which sculpts the body.

What area can it be done on?

Abdomen. buttocks, thighs. knees, upper arms. chin. cheeks and neck.

What does liposuction involve?

Through a tiny incision a narrow tube and cannula is used to vacuum the fat layer that lies deep beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed and pulled breaking up the fat layer, breaking up fat cells and suctioning them out.

Is it painful?

The surgery is either local aesthetic or general depending on the volume of fat that needs to be removed. This will be discussed in your consultation. Pain is controlled with medication prescribed by your surgeon.

How long in hospital?

If you have local aesthetic usually you will not need to stay in hospital. General aesthetic usually requires an overnight stay in hospital

How soon will I be able to go back to work?

Depending on the extent of the liposuction. Patients can generally return to work from 2 days to 2 weeks. A compression garment or bandage is worn from 2 to 4 weeks.
